Cascade Black Silk Engineered Knit Gown

A one-of-a-kind black silk engineered knit gown combining sculptural folded construction, transparency and metallic detailing, designed by Alina Stanila.

The gown is developed through engineered knitwear rather than conventional cut-and-sew construction, allowing individually formed sections to define both the surface and silhouette.

Silk and monofilament create the principal textile structure, while Lurex yarn is introduced through selected construction lines, giving a subtle metallic definition to the black surface.

The upper body is closely fitted and articulated through curved engineered sections that follow the contours of the torso. Sculptural folded detailing through the chest introduces three-dimensional depth without interrupting the clean overall line of the gown.

A crew neckline creates a precise upper silhouette, while the body transitions into a dropped waist, elongating the proportions before the construction expands into the floor-length skirt.

Below the dropped waist, repeated folded knitted sections are layered through the length of the gown. These create a rhythmic surface of volume, movement and shadow while retaining the characteristic visible construction lines of the piece.

At the back, a keyhole opening breaks the otherwise sculpted upper body. The gown is secured with a back zip fastening and hook-and-eye closure.

Each element is individually engineered, assembled and finished to form a single one-off archive garment.

Cascade explores repetition, movement and textile engineering through a floor-length sculptural silhouette.

Rather than beginning with a conventional cut pattern, the garment is developed through engineered knit construction, allowing the textile and silhouette to evolve together.

Silk and monofilament form the foundation of the piece, while Lurex yarn traces selected construction lines, introducing a subtle metallic contrast across the black surface.

The upper body remains closely sculpted, with curved engineered sections following the contours of the torso. A crew neckline gives the bodice a controlled, graphic finish before the silhouette falls into a defined dropped waist.

Below the waist, repeated folded knitted forms build progressively through the length of the gown. These three-dimensional sections create movement, shadow and depth while allowing the underlying construction to remain visible.

The result is a one-off archive gown in which the method of construction becomes the primary decoration.

Due to the specialist textile construction and three-dimensional folded sections, professional specialist cleaning is recommended. Do not machine wash, tumble dry or bleach. Store carefully without compressing the sculptural folds and avoid prolonged strain on the knitted or monofilament sections.
