Arc Engineered Knit Top & Crinoline

A sculptural engineered knit top with coordinating transparent crinoline, designed and made in England by Alina Stanila.
The close-fitting upper piece combines contrasting black and ivory sections with silk and monofilament construction, creating a deliberate interplay between opacity and transparency. Curved viscose piping follows the contours of the body, defining each engineered section and forming the graphic architectural lines across the front and sides.
The neckline develops into an almost invisible stand collar constructed through the sheer upper structure, allowing the textile to appear to continue directly around the neck.
The back is open, revealing the construction and creating contrast with the highly structured front. A concealed zip fastening secures the garment while preserving the clean architectural line of the design.
Each section is individually developed before the garment is assembled and finished by hand. Rather than relying on conventional decorative seaming, the visible construction lines become an integral part of the design itself.
The accompanying lightweight crinoline introduces volume away from the body. Its transparent structure deliberately contrasts with the close fit of the top, creating a silhouette that moves between fitted textile construction and suspended architectural form.

Arc explores the relationship between engineered textile construction, transparency and structure. The fitted upper piece combines contrasting knitted sections with monofilament, allowing opaque and transparent surfaces to become part of the construction itself rather than decorative additions.
Curved viscose piping traces the architecture of the body, joining and defining the contrasting knitted sections while creating the distinctive graphic lines that run across the front and sides. Small circular junctions punctuate the construction and emphasise the relationship between each section.
An almost invisible stand collar extends the sheer upper structure around the neck, while the open back exposes the construction from another perspective and is secured with a concealed zip fastening.
The top is accompanied by a lightweight transparent crinoline, creating volume away from the body and deliberately contrasting with the close, sculpted fit of the knitted upper piece. Together, the two elements explore opposing qualities of containment and space, opacity and transparency, softness and architectural form.
