Aperture Black & Ivory Engineered Knit Coat

A one-off black and ivory sculptural coat created through engineered knit construction, designed and made in England by Alina Stanila.
The coat combines close architectural construction through the upper body with exaggerated volume through the shoulders and a dramatic floor-length silhouette. The open front exposes the internal structure of the design and allows the garment to move freely when worn.
Contrasting black knitted sections are arranged alongside lighter and semi-transparent areas, creating a graphic relationship between solid surface and negative space. Curved construction lines frame the body before developing into repeated sculptural forms through the lower coat.
The shoulder structure is deliberately pronounced, creating a strong architectural profile that balances the scale of the full-length silhouette. Long sleeves continue the engineered construction from shoulder to wrist, maintaining the graphic language of the body throughout the garment.
Through the lower section, repeated three-dimensional knitted forms create depth and movement while semi-transparent sections allow glimpses of the clothing beneath.
Each section is individually developed, assembled and finished by hand, allowing the textile construction itself to determine the final silhouette.

Aperture explores the coat as an architectural structure rather than a conventional outer layer. Engineered knitted sections are assembled around the body to create a long, open silhouette in which opacity, transparency and volume become part of the construction.
Contrasting black and ivory surfaces define the upper body, while sculptural shoulder forms exaggerate the proportions of the coat. Through the lower section, repeated knitted elements create rhythm and movement, alternating between dense black surfaces and lighter transparent areas.
The open front allows the coat to move freely around the body, creating a dramatically different silhouette depending on how it is styled and layered.

Due to the specialist construction, sheer monofilament sections and sculptural three-dimensional form, professional specialist cleaning is recommended. Do not machine wash, tumble dry or bleach. Store carefully without compressing the shoulders or lower sculptural sections, and avoid prolonged hanging where possible to prevent unnecessary strain on the knitted structure.
